{September 17, 2008}   letter to the editor

A pleasant day to all Mountain Province Exponent (MPE) staffs and readers.

I was in Dangwa station with my cousin waiting for someone last week. Hungry, I stand up to buy some food. While waiting for my change, I noticed a newspaper hanged that cost ten pesos. I got curiosed because it is in titled Mountain Province Exponent. My cousin bought it and we spent our time reading. We were amazed when we read an article about our hometown. It says there that next year, Data Elementary School (Sabangan,Mountain Province) will be sponsored by SMART for an internet access.

The newspaper is very good. Actually, I know nothing about this. It was my first time to read the newspaper. I guess, this is newly published, is it?

Now, it will not be hard for me to know what’s up on my province. I’m very proud of this. I really like it and I really thank to those who contributed in making this.

I encourage all from Mountain Province to support and share on this said publication. Hopefully on this coming semester’s, I could share some articles on MPE.

MORE POWER AND GOD BLESS !!

From a proud e-Montanosa

{September 3, 2008}   LUCKY ME

I was on my way to our boarding house one sunny afternoon of  Friday when somebody hold my left arm. Feeling nervous, I looked back. Standing on my back was a thin little girl. I guess, she is a ten or eleven year old. Still feeling    confused, I asked her, “bakit?” She  then let my arm down and answered me back, “Ate meron po kayong plastik?”

“Anong plastik at bakit? ” I said

” Gaya po ng plastik ng C2 ganun po”

“Irritated I said,” Pasensya na wala kaming ganyan” then I continue walking but I was freeze when she said, “Gutom na  gutom na poh kasi ng kapatid ko”

I looked back and I saw a little boy some meters away from. ” Ano? Ba’t di kayo umuwi sa bahay niyo? I said.

I don’t know what to say. Lately, I was thinking how hard to be a student. You know why I was thinking about it? Because on that day, I spent my money on my project. I  went  home with  9.25 pesos  on my pocket. I used  6.25  pesos   for my fare so 2.50 pesos was left. That was I was thinking before I met this girl.

I realized that if this girl was telling the truth, then I should be lucky to myself because  I have a loving family.

I felt pity to these two kids but there’s a feeling of doubt because what if they were syndicate  members. I  got my  2.50 pesos left on my pocket then I  gave to them,  “Pasensya na,  nagkataong  wala  din  pera”  then  I left.

While I was walking, I kept thinking  how lucky i was that I grew up in the province. There, I never heard case like this. may be there are some but it’s not as worst as in the cities.

{August 29, 2008}   3×3 autobiography

17th day of August when God sent me on this messy world year 1990. That was the year of th horse. For that reason,  I was born to be a fighter.

I am a full blooded Igorot. I belong to the Kankan-ey group of Mountain Province. Proud to be a full blooded Igorot, I do wear, dance, talk, our tribe culture.

I love education. For 18 years in high school,  I  came up to  be a  DevCom student.  Hopefully, I’ll end up to be a media  member.

{August 28, 2008}   My shining stars of yesterday

It was my last year in high school when I transferred at Ankileng National High School in Sagada. I’m a total stranger in that place and at first I felt alone.

People there are very friendly so I easily adapt in their environment. I didn’t expect to gain friends there but I did. I was very happy to see my elementary friend there. She’s Lumen, my cartoon like friend. Aside from her, I got to know many friends. From my batch mate, Henry, Roland, Nico, Tarit, Jessie, Jennelyn, Victor, Jones, May Ann and Julia. They are my senior friends.

Henry is my very open but hot tempered friend. Roland, my pa-cute effect friend. Nico, my cutest and cell phone hater friend. Jessie, my tallest but something like childish friend and Jennelyn, my super ever twins friend. May Ann, my ever lovely boyish friend.

Aside from my batch mate friends, I do also have 3rd year friends. They are 3j’s and DM that’s how I call them. They are Jimmy, Jerry, Jacob, Daniel and Moshe. Jimmy, my very jolly friend. He is the king of comedy on the group. Jacob, my ever silent type friend. Jerry, my mysterious friend. Daniel, my very open friend and cousin. Moshe, my story teller or Lola Basyang. He’s very talkative and closest to me.

My junior friends were my bodyguard that time. You know why? It’s because they were all CAT officers.

If I have senior and junior friend, I also have my one and only freshmen friend. My very own Kilven. He was my all around partner, he always accompany me whenever I’m alone.

{August 21, 2008}   AUGUST ’08 MUSLIM MINDANAO

MUSLIM MINDANAO, again??… Past repeats its memory as they said. It was just like yesterday when the war ceased. For the past years, we’ve been praying for peace in Mindanao. It was been a wish of everyone that the past war will never be repeated but now all our wishes failed. At this mid of August, the in Mindanao is getting worst.

What were the roots of all these? There were many issues and opinions about this that confused the concerned individual. It was been a big issue about our religions- the Christianity and  the Islamic religion. because of the differences  in their beliefs, it created misunderstanding. Misunderstanding that leads the  formation of the different armed groups  like the ABU SAYAFF  and  MILF.  Lots of issues were coming out about the purposes of these armed groups. They were fighting  for independence  and for their rights.

What do they mean fight for independence? Some says, people of Mindanao wanted to be independent from the National Government. They wanted a separate republic. These armed groups were also known for fighting for their rights. Does this mean that they are fighting because they receive unfair attention from the Government? No one really knows the truth behind all these.

It was not only the civilians that were being killed in this unending war but also our great soldiers. It is still fresh from our hearts and memories when our marines  were  killed. They were intentionally killed by the rebels. It really hurts to their that their family were butchered like animals. To them it is easy to accept that they were killed by a bullet than killed like animals. No one knows when will this war end. We just pray and hope that this will soon stop.

Just like a Cook, I have my specialties when writing.I do also have my recipe for a fruitful output . Let me share some of them.

Though music doesn’t love me, i do love it. It’s music that refreshes my writing ability. I do my writing activities in any place with the presence of music especially songs with meaningful lyrics. Dawn is the best time for me to write because it’s very romantic and inspiring. The breeze at dawn creates a very special feeling on me. it gives me strength and confidence to write on something. The first thing I do is to on the radio and listen if the table is clear and the things around were organized. organization of things around me helps my mind to bring out organized ideas. Most of all, I use wide sheets of paper in writing because it makes my imagination wider and clearer. Wide spaces for me symbolizes wide scope of thinking and imagination. After i finished writing, read it many times for editing. I do three draft before finalization.Though it is a long process, I’m enjoying my task and I’m happy what I’m doing. Enjoying our work is what matters.

Finally after a long work of thinking and writing, I’m proud of myself that I made an output. I value my effort and time of doing my task so every output produced from it were like a giftfrom my loved ones that has a sentimental value that can not be changed by money or anything.

My secret of having more strength and confidence of doing my work is I always give myself a credit. I always praise myself like this, “huh! you made it Crys!! Someday you’ll be one of THEM”.
